We are pleased to announce the latest feature added to this site, it's called the FanaticForge. It's a smelting pot of creativity.

What is the FanaticForge?

Well, the forge is a place for members of this site who have an idea and need help to make it happen. It's also a place where members can get involved with other members projects and work in a project team. Two heads are better than one apparently, so all your heads together must be even better!

Fanatical Android Emulator/Sim/Virtual Tour Released

In collaboration with T-Mobile, AndroidFanatic.com has released it's virtual tour and emulator/simulator of the Android OS. It's really more for the people visiting this site who don't already own an Android powered device, but want to get the feel of it, before parting with cash. It's also a bit of a play for us Android veterans!

Building on and in response to this site's sucesss, we are expanding. We have created a new site (tuxfanatic.com) dedicated purely to Linux, that's linux on a desktop, laptop, netbook, mobile device, and embedded.

This new site will be based on the same format as androidfanatic.com (because if it's not broke, don't fix it!), featuring latest breaking Linux news, hacks, software, reviews, videos, discussion, support and the usual odds and sods.

We have opened 6 more online stores too, in 6 countries, UK, US Germany, France, Canada, and Japan - these stores will be concentrating mainly on hardware - laptops, notebooks, sub-notebooks and netbooks.

Okay, so you may have noticed we have been playing around and experimenting with text-ads down the right-hand side of this site, now we are not saying they are crap or anything, but the 'context-sensitive' advertising really isn't that, well sensitive. We have had allsorts of rubbish floating past, from 'find love in your area now' to 'viagra' to god knows what.

As we don't charge for anything with regards to this site and the information inside it, we needed to find a way to monetize and capitalize on the large volume of users and hits we are receiving, as the research and running costs all cost time and money, and as they say - time is money!

After receiving 110,000 hits in 2 weeks, it's finally happened. Our highly trained team of meerkat-lemmingdogs have made positive identification of a grand total of 2, yes TWO automatic registrations by bots, advertising Pharm's/Viagra.

Well safe to say this kind of activity has been erradicated as we have added Catchpa security to the signup process..... prob shoulda done that in the first place, but hey - 2 outta 100K is not bad.

Some of you may be aware that between around 11pm tonight (Sat 23rd Jan) there was a temporary database failure, on one of our servers. This lasted for about 1.5 hours and was completely my fault.

I was attempting to clear up a minor issue wit forum post indexing and bombed the whole damn thang.

Luckily I had taken a backup before this, and we are now back online and fully functional. The indexing issue is resolved too.

Apologies to 300+ users online at the moment this occured.

Site Translation now live.

We understand that trying to follow technical instruction can be difficult, especially when it's in a foreign tongue.

So.....

Due to the demand from non-English speaking nations we have implemented our page/site translation service, with the help of our freinds at Google of course.

On every page at the top right, you will notice a series of flags, these represent the country's languages that we currently support translation.

If you are okay with English, but just need a reminder on any particular page, just click the flag of your choice and only that page will be translated.

Translation Service soon to be launched.

We have noticed many thousands of hits from non-English speaking countries. So in order to make this site as accessible as possible, we intend to launch our translation service, where you can choose your language, and the page will be translated into that language, and all links you click on thereafter.

However right now, if you fall into the category of non-english speaking, you can't actually read this....yet.

Watch this space.

Are we cunning linguists? Or what? ahem.

Debian on Android Installer Released

I have created an installer script to easily get Debian running on your Android device, giving you access to the full plethora of programs available in Debian and let's you continue using your phone as it was intended to be: as an Android device with all the capabilities thereof.

None of the process does any damage to your underlying android device and your phone still does everything it used to - even while Debian is running. Think of it as a Virtual Machine, except not.

Whole process should take about 5-10 minutes!

Haven't forgotten, I have been away on a course for a few days and was hoping to have this wrapped up before I left but I am afraid it didn't happen that way. HOWEVER whilst stuck in the hotel I have been creating a decent ONE-CLICK type installer for you to get this running without any messing about. None of the process does any damage to your underlying android device and your phone still does everything it used to - even while Debian is running. Think of it as a Virtual Machine, except not.

Again, the tutorial and installer will be located here within the next couple of days.

After nights and nights of research, hacking and modding, it's paid off. An easier way for full blown linux without lugging your laptop around. Please bear in mind that linux is the most powerful and stable OS in the world. Now bear with me a day or two!

This is going to be a ~~FULL STEP BY STEP UPDATED~~ tutorial and ONE-CLICK type installer on how to get Debian running on your Android (G1 at the moment) device, the whole install process will take you about ~~30 mins~~ 10 minutes, and leave you with access to the full plethora of programs available in Debian and let's you continue using your phone as it was intended to be: as an Android device with all the capabilities thereof.

Battery Life - Quick Update

Now I have been using this battery on my new G1 device for a while, and I can't believe I am saying this but it appears the more I use it the better the battery life becomes. I don't have a set charge pattern, but I have noticed an improvement over time.

After all my slating of the battery on other forums I might have to eat my words. We will see what we will see.

After a quick informative chat with DarkriftX over at http://www.android-dls.com, it seems our typeface for the logo above was too close a resemblence to the google affair. So we have quickly reacted to this and made the neccessary mods to the logo to fall in line with branding guidlines outlined at http://www.android.com/branding.html
